The friends of Plum Island Light, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to direct and support the restoration, preservation, operation, and maintenance of the Newburyport Harbor Light at Plum Island Point. It offers educational tours to the public from May through October by appointment. Now on lease from the City of Newburyport, the tower is an active lighthouse, and the Coast Guard continues to be responsible for the maintenance of the light and lens.

Long term goals include the restoration of the interior wall of the tower and the acquisition of the Keeper’s house and related outbuildings from the Department of Interior. Our plan is to place the Keeper’s house on the National Register and eventually utililize this historic building as a museum.
